BACKGROUND:
A world of heroes and villains. Of people made gods by powers beyond many imaginings. A universe so vast and wide and filled with life from star to star—so full that it takes 52 universes to contain it all. That is the world that Jason comes from. Earth Prime, the priority, but not the only one by far. Super-powered beings exist everywhere, although normal non-powered humans still outnumber them. Many of these beings become superheroes, vigilantes fighting for justice and the protection of the average, weaker civilians. Others become villains they have to fight against. The public isn’t always sure which is which, but some of them generally have a more favorable view, especially after a few otherworldly invasions led to many of them stepping up to save the planet.

The Justice League is a group of these heroes, mostly populated by people who have superpowers, but some of them don’t—like Batman, the Dark Knight, defender of Gotham, whose greatest skill is either his unlimited bank account or his ability to strike fear into the worst of the worst and never go down before they do. For years Batman had been working with his teenage partner, Robin, aka Dick Grayson, but then Dick grew up, had some communication problems with Bruce, which led to them being mostly estranged as Dick matured into his new identity, Nightwing, and focused more on his own team of teen heroes, the Titans.

That’s where Jason comes in. He was born and raised in Crime Alley—the derogatory name for the crime, violence, and poverty-ridden Park Row neighborhood of Gotham City, New Jersey. He survived on his own on the streets until he tried to steal the tires off of a car most people would have avoided—the Batmobile. This meeting completely altered his life and it wasn’t long before Jason was taken in by Batman, aka billionaire Bruce Wayne, and would eventually become his second Robin. Well, then Jason was later killed by The Joker and that sure did change.

Jason was brought back to life in a way he doesn’t completely understand himself, although a Lazarus Pit was definitely involved. It’s an ancient pool of rejuvenating waters that can halt aging, cure illnesses, and even undo death. Unfortunately they often drive the person submerged in the waters insane and it takes a lot for people to overcome that. Ra’s al Ghul, leader of the League of Assassins, is the only person who regularly uses the Pits and seeks out every single of them to control them. Jason himself was taken by Talia al Ghul, daughter of Ra’s, and sent to be trained by a group of secretive monks and warriors called the All-Caste to not only ready him for the revenge he wanted to get against Batman, but also to help him control the Pit sickness. The All-Caste’s leader Ducra took special attention in Jason’s training and even taught him how to access the All-Blades that are powered by his soul—but only work against magic so he can’t use them to harm regular humans or even most superhuman.

He went back to Gotham as the Red Hood, a criminal, messing with the Batman’s whole crew, using lethal force to try and gain leverage in Gotham’s underworld and force Batman to break his code against killing to take out the Joker, but of course he wouldn’t. After all of that fell apart, Jason said Fuck Gotham, and went off on his own, where he met Koriand’r, princess of Tamaran, who was an alien stranded on Earth, became friends with her, and went off to save Roy Harper, aka Arsenal, from a prison in the Middle East. They became the first group of Outlaws working together around the world and even in space (you know, as you do when you work with an alien princess).

But the Joker tried to kill everyone Batman cares about, in particular his Bat-and-bird-themed family of vigilantes, tried to permanently scar Jason’s face with an acid gas hidden in his helmet, and then Bruce’s son Damian was killed and things get hazy because a shift in the universe revealed that the timeline had been altered and it was trying to right itself in what little way it could. Jason is one of said people affected as his relationship with his family was a lot more strained before this shift, particularly after events post-Damian’s death lead him to voluntarily giving up all his of memories. In the adjusted timeline, his relationship is more awkward than antagonistic and he even shows up for family breakfasts!

Still, the Outlaws would end up falling apart, with Kori going off to do her own thing and eventually helping run the Teen Titans, whereas Jason and Roy worked together as a duo of mercenaries to a not-unexpectedly disastrous end, because you should never lead those two people on their own. They go their separate ways, too, Jason ending up back in Gotham, where Batman would agree to work with him on trying to get inside Black Mask’s organization and following the trail of a techno-organic virus that had been injected into the Mayor of Gotham. He thought if he could stage an assassination attempt, it would gain Black Mask’s attention, gain Jason street cred as a true Rogue, and help him get inside to figure out what was going on. Jason succeeded, and ended up meeting Artemis of Bana-Mighdall, an isolated Amazonian nation within the country of Qurac, and Bizarro, a Superman clone Black Mask had been hoping to gain control of if he had not been stopped by Jason and his new friends. They would make up the new Outlaws and work together traveling the world following their own moral code and completing missions that regular heroes may avoid because of how messy and gray they are.

PERSONALITY:
Jason’s personality is a veritable minefield—that wisp of warning and wariness on the surface that only hints at the destruction that can explode from below. He comes across as a street smart, rough-around-the-edges wiseass, and in many ways he is. He spent most of his life growing up on the rough streets of Crime Alley in Gotham City, even spending over a year living on his own after the death of his mother. Crime Alley isn’t really the place for the average adult—let alone a barely teen—to make it on his own, but Jason managed it, through wit, skill, and the occasional pick-pocketing or boosting of tires from unsuspecting vehicles. He learned how to play the game, how to stay cool and keep people at a distance (not matter how much he wanted friends), making himself look tougher than he really was. He grew up too fast in a world that was harsh and learned that horrible things happen to a lot of good people.

After being taken in by Batman (aka Bruce Wayne) after stealing the tires off the Batmobile, Jason becomes Robin and he finally has a purpose in life. Protecting the innocent, making the bad guys pay for the horrible things they do and all the people they hurt. It was a dream he never wanted to wake up from. Being a hero was what he was meant to be, in his mind and it let him be himself more. A nerdy, awkward kid who loves books, school, classic movies, and has a deep need to prove his worth to the people that matter to him. But Jason could never fully let go of his roots and whereas Batman was against excessive force and killing, Jason knew that sometimes fear was not enough. Sometimes you needed to prove there was something for those dirt bags to be afraid of.

But of course Jason has never been completely in line with Batman’s views. Batman sees fear as the way to cow criminals into compliance and rehabilitation. Jason has seen and lived within the pain and suffering the powerless endure himself. He’s been on both sides of the coin. He believes not everyone is salvageable and that some crimes are so bad and some people so far gone that violence or even more are the only options left. Being killed by the Joker and coming back from the dead due to Lazarus Pit only drove in the believe that some people are too evil to be left alive, especially when he found out that not only had Batman not permanently stopped the Joker after his death, but that he had gone on to kill hundreds of others in the meantime.

Jason is a good person at heart, who deeply feels and empathizes with the victims of crimes, with the weak and powerless, because he has been weak and powerless, and that makes him viciously protective of them and willing to do things his own way to get the results he believes that they deserve. That is why he became the Red Hood. Why he took on the role of doing the dark and terrible things he thinks Batman won’t do, crossing the lines Batman won’t cross. He truly believes this makes the world a better place and if someone’s has to stain their soul to get it done, it may as well be him.

Things have improved between him and his family since he came back from the dead (it took a while…a long while), but Jason still has his way of doing things. He doesn’t agree with Batman. He sees him as toeing that line far too much for the sake of morality at the expense of those they are supposed to protect. Still, Jason needs people. He’s not an antisocial person who hates everyone, no matter how much he wanted to act like that and turn himself into that kind of person. He secretly craves the personal connection of friends and family because it’s something he’s never been able to keep.

It’s why he can never completely stay away from Gotham. It’s why he died searching for his biological mother. It’s why he keeps building teams with other people who seem to be lost or outsiders like himself. It’s why he makes the decision to work with Batman and follow his rules: No killing of anyone in Batman’s city. That doesn’t mean he won’t exact harsh vengeance and justice (like destroying the antidote that would have stopped Black Mask from turning into a vegetable), but the chance to have his family back—or at least regain some approval and trust from Bruce—is enough for him to do things his way. Even if he thinks it sucks. Also, he likes guns. Sorry Bruce.

POWER:
All-Blades : Mystical twin short swords powered by Jason’s soul that can be used to fight against magical beings or objects. They can cause great damage to magical beings, especially if the type of magic used contrasts with the magic of the swords. But Jason can only hold them for so long before they fade because he was never that great at the meditation and spiritual control needed to use them long term.

Twin Guns with Never-Ending Ammo : Two guns that never run out of ammunition, but the types of bullets that are fired depend on Jason’s mood/emotional state (and just random shit). The types of bullets include actual bullets, exploding rounds, taser rounds, rubber bullets, bubble bullets (they explode into bubbles on contact), gum bullets (highly sticky and adhesive substance that you will spend hours getting out of your hair), and blanks.
Red Hood Suit : Red biker helmet with advanced technology, air filtration, nightvision, infrared, and wireless access, and a build in self-destruct (aka bomb), a suit with a red bat on the chest that also works as a built in high-voltage taser, brown leather jacket that is mostly bullet proof, steel-toe combat boots, gloves, and protective armor around his arms and legs.

COMMUNITY POST (VOICE) SAMPLE:
[Jason doesn’t bother to go with video, because why the hell would he put his face out there for everyone to see when he has no idea who knows who he is. Even his ego isn’t that big. So he keeps it to voice and wants to put out the feelers.]

I don’t know what’s worse, the creepy fan culture for the heroes or the job program that gives you the worst freaking possible job they can. Like they think it’s cute. Not sure that’s going to work out, but a D for effort. Someone tell me there’s real fun to being dragged into another universe because right now, I may as well be dying of boredom.

[Again.]
